Thamara E. Sordo-Vieira

Leveraging extensive trial court experience, a deep insurance industry background, and powerful written and oral advocacy skills, Thamara “Tammy” Sordo-Vieira delivers consistently effective appellate representation in a broad spectrum of matters. Whether parrying tough questions from an appellate panel, parsing opaque policy language, or providing valuable insights to trial counsel in an advisory capacity, Tammy works relentlessly to obtain favorable client results.

Tammy’s immersion in all aspects of trial practice laid a solid foundation for her current role at Jacobs and Diemer, where she defends clients’ interests at the appellate level in state and federal courts. At trial and on appeal, she has litigated cases involving medical malpractice, product liability, wrongful death, construction, workers’ compensation, licensure and regulations, and general negligence. While her experience and capabilities are wide-ranging, Tammy has earned a reputation for her particularly robust knowledge of and experience with no-fault insurance issues and other coverage disputes.

Working as a licensed property and casualty sales producer for a national insurance company before pursuing her legal career, Tammy studied insurance policies and made coverage recommendations for her clients. Not only did this in-house experience imbue her with substantive insights on a variety of coverage issues, but it also gave her an appreciation of what insurers need and expect from outside counsel – clear, direct, and timely reporting, responsiveness, and a collaborative approach that respects her clients’ time and intelligence. Tammy’s experience litigating insurance issues and her comprehensive understanding of no-fault insurance issues are why national insurers regularly retain Tammy to provide complex coverage opinions involving out-of-state legal issues in Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Kansas, Florida, and Arizona.

A native Spanish speaker, Tammy has used her bilingual skills when corporate clients from Puerto Rico needed contract interpretation and legal opinions, as well as when Spanish-speaking individual defendants need translation and guidance throughout court proceedings. Tammy is also a frequent speaker on insurance, no-fault, and other legal topics and serves as a member of the editorial board of Laches, a legal magazine published by the Oakland County Bar Association.
